(CNN) — Zimbabwe’s main opposition party and church groups in the southern African country reported a rise in post-election violence Wednesday, a day after the army denied it was unleashing attacks on opposition supporters. The opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) said 25 of its supporters have been killed since the March 29 elections, and church groups claim militias have killed eight people and wounded 30 others in the past two days. Zimbabweans have yet to learn when a runoff election will be held following last week’s announcement of the presidential election results. The electoral commission said MDC candidate Morgan Tsvangirai received more votes than incumbent Robert Mugabe, but it was not enough to avoid a runoff. |
