Man killed in shark attack at California BeachPosted: 01:09 PM ET
(CNN) - A man was killed Friday in a suspected shark attack at a southern California beach, authorities said. Lifeguards at Solana Beach summoned emergency personnel at 7:20 a.m. (10:20 a.m. ET), said San Diego County Sheriff's Lt. Mike McClain. The victim, who was between 55 and 60 years old, was brought to a lifeguard station, but was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a statement posted on the Solana Beach city Web site. The victim was swimming with a group from a local triathlon training group, the city's statement said. His name was not released, but city officials said his relatives had been contacted. –CNN's Paul Vercammen contributed to this report. |
