Tibetans in Kashmir rally against China in runup to Summer OlympicsPosted: 04:11 PM ET
SRINAGAR, India-administered Kashmir - The frontier township of Leh in Indian-administered Kashmir closed businesses, schools and agencies Thursday to protest the Olympic torch run in New Delhi, India - the latest leg of a relay leading up to the Summer Games in Beijing, China. Tibetans who settled in the small Himalayan city of Leh to escape Chinese rule in their native Tibet were demonstrating their anger at what they consider China's poor human rights record and recent crackdown in Tibet. There was tight security on hand as they conducted an anti-Chinese rally. In Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian-administered Kashmir, a candlelight procession of Tibetans in yellow robes meandered through the streets Thursday evening to express solidarity with Tibetans in Lhasa, Tibet's capital. |
