Senator's husband admits sex with prostitute

(CNN) - The husband of U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow admitted paying a prostitute $150 for oral sex at a Michigan hotel, officials said Thursday.

A Troy, Michigan, police report said officers conducting surveillance on the hotel saw a man later identified as Thomas Athans pull up, enter the room being watched and leave. Stopped by police, Athans admitted to authorities he had paid the woman for oral sex, the police report said. A 20-year-old woman was evicted from the hotel and faces prostitution charges, according to the police report.

In response to the story, reported by the Detroit Free Press, Stabenow, D-Michigan, issued a statement saying, "This is very disturbing and serious. Obviously, it's a deeply difficult and personal matter."
