Attorney: 5 Cuban soccer players defect to United States

(CNN) - Five Cuban soccer players who were reported missing from their team in Florida on Wednesday have defected to the United States, their lawyer said Thursday.

Attorney Irving Gonzalez said he will meet with his clients later Thursday.

Team captain Yenier Bermudez told The Miami Herald that he and four other team members decided while in Cuba that they would defect after arriving in the United States, the newspaper reported.
