Polygamist sect leader convicted in Utah now faces charges in ArizonaPosted: 01:21 PM ET
(CNN) - Polygamist sect leader Warren Jeffs, who was convicted in Utah in November for being an accomplice to rape, pleaded not guilty Wednesday in an Arizona court to charges of sexual conduct with a minor, incest and conspiracy, court officials said. A case management hearing is set for March 19. Jeffs, 52, is leader and "prophet" of the 10,000-member Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which openly practices polygamy in two towns straddling the Arizona-Utah state line - Hildale, Utah, and Colorado City, Ariz. He faces a total of 10 felony counts in three cases - all of which were included in Wednesday's hearing, according to a news release from Mohave County Superior Court. |
