Victim in junior high shooting declared brain deadPosted: 10:17 PM ET
OXNARD, Calif. (CNN) - A 15-year-old student shot by a fellow student at his junior high school has been declared brain dead from his injuries, but his body is being maintained on a ventilator for possible organ donation, according to the medical examiner's office. Oxnard police spokesman David Keith identified the victim as Lawrence King. He was shot in the back of the head in a computer lab at the E.O. Green Junior High School on Tuesday. The 14-year-old suspect fled immediately after the shooting, which occurred around 8:15 a.m. (11:15 a.m. ET), but was apprehended a few blocks from the school shortly thereafter, Keith said. He has been charged with attempted murder, and charges are likely to be upgraded. The Ventura County Medical Examiner's office said King was declared brain dead on Wednesday. Oxnard is northwest of Los Angeles. |
