BAGHDAD (CNN) - Coalition forces killed nine Iraqi civilians and wounded
three others near the town of Iskandariya on Saturday, a spokeswoman with
Multi-National Force – Iraq told CNN Monday.

There was one child among the dead and two children among the wounded.
The injured were treated at U.S. military hospitals.
A Babil police official said two women were among eight bodies taken to
Iskandariya's main hospital. The dead appeared to be from two al-Ghrir Sunni
tribe families, the official said.

Lt. Col. Maura Gillen, a U.S. Army spokeswoman, said coalition forces
were pursuing suspected al Qaeda in Iraq militants south of Baghdad when the
incident occurred. No additional details were provided, but Gillen said the
incident is under investigation.
