(CNN) — The Wayne County prosecutor announced Friday that her office will conduct a “fair, impartial and thorough” investigation following a newspaper report that Detroit’s mayor exchanged romantic text messages with his chief of staff, contradicting the pair’s sworn testimony in a police whistle-blower trial last summer. Prosecutor Kym Worthy stressed that she found out about the accusations in Thursday’s article in the Detroit Free Press along with the rest of the public. “There are people that mistakenly believe that this office has been conducting an investigation — that could not be farther from the truth,” Worth said in a brief statement on Friday. “We have received no information whatsoever from any police agency.” |
